The creative badge for the 113 academic year is centered around the four mythical beasts of physics: Schrödinger’s cat, Laplace’s demon, Maxwell’s demon, and Zeno’s turtle. At the center is the logo of the Physics Department of Tamkang University, which extends outward into four parts. Each part is named after a philosophical or physical paradox or theory, and is paired with a cartoon character representing the respective concept:
1.Schrödinger’s cat: Both blue and cats symbolize a mysterious and tranquil atmosphere, while the blue cat in the image represents the famous thought experiment in quantum mechanics.
2. Demon de Laplace:The yellow color, along with the gears and mist-like form, evokes the Victorian era, a time when people were filled with optimism and confidence about the Industrial Revolution. Similarly, this yellow creature symbolizes the optimism in determinism, where, given the initial conditions, everything can be controlled.
3.Maxwell’s demon: he purple little demon is an imaginary entity that can detect and control the movement of individual molecules, symbolizing the possibility of violating the second law of thermodynamics.
4. Zeno’s paradoxes: The green turtle symbolizes the logical paradoxes of infinity, such as the “Achilles and the Tortoise” from Zeno’s paradox.
